A steam cleaner is a great gadget that gives you the ability to clean your home using the power of steam. They are basically a pressurised tank into which you pour ordinary tap water. The water is heated, usually by an element similar to the one you find in your kettle, at which point it turns into steam. That steam is sent along a small tube to the cleaning pad or nozzle and comes out as a high powered jet of steam, which can be directed to you onto the area you want to clean.
Is a Steam Cleaner For Me?
Using a steam cleaner has many advantages over conventional cleaning methods. The temperature of the steam means that any surface you clean using it will be sterilised provided you clean every millimetre and pass it over the surface at a slow enough rate.
You can clean many surfaces without using detergents, so you can save yourself a lot of money and it is good for the environment. If you have a member of the family who suffers from allergies a steam cleaner can be a lifesaver. Not only do you no need to use detergents it is also very effective at killing dust mites, bed bugs and other tiny bugs that contribute to many people’s allergies.
Buying a Steam Cleaner
If you are buying a steam cleaner try to buy the right one for the job. Cleaning a tile floor with a handheld steam cleaner is no joke, but with a mop style steam cleaner the same job is really quick and easy. If you have specific jobs in mind make sure that the cleaner you buy has the right attachments for that job. Some cleaners need special pads and it makes sense to only buy those brands that sell spare pads etc.
Make sure that the water reservoir on any steam cleaner you buy has enough capacity. However, do not buy one that is too heavy when full for you to use with ease.
