What Are Energy Efficient Windows?

Most of us are a aware of double glazed or even triple glazed windows, and know how good they are at keeping our homes and workplaces at the right temperature. However, not everyone has heard of the next generation of windows – energy efficient windows.

This new generation of windows are all double or triple glazed, which means that they keep the cold out in the winter. Each window is tailor made for the aperture they are designed to fill, so that means that no air can leak into the building from outside or escape from the room and be wasted.

Energy Efficient Windows save You Money Year Round

However, the biggest change is that it is now possible to buy energy efficient windows that feature glass that includes a special coating that is designed to reflect heat. For homes in areas where hot summers are common, this is a significant step forward. It means that during the summer you can keep some of the heat from the sun out of your rooms. The result is your air conditioning units do not have to work as hard and you save money on your fuel bills.

The great thing about these windows is that they are not prohibitively expensive. They are priced so that the money you save on fuel more than covers the difference in price between this kind of window and ordinary glazing. As more and more glaziers stock and install the windows prices are falling further making them even more cost effective.

Windows are a critical part of any home or building, providing both natural light and ventilation. In recent years, there has been an increasing focus on energy efficiency in both new construction and renovations. Energy efficient windows are those that have been designed to minimize heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.
